Cactus to thrive in Nordic Climate Group after “great next step”

Cactus Mechanical and its fellow group companies Aircon Maintenance and Westcold Refrigeration have joined Nordic Climate Group (NCG) in a deal hailed by the vendors as a “great next step”.

Based in Leeds, the Cactus Mechanical group provides comprehensive HVAC, air conditioning, commercial refrigeration and ventilation solutions. The businesses deliver a complete package that includes design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance.

Bringing more than 50 years of experience supporting customers across Yorkshire and throughout the UK, Cactus Mechanical was founded by Christopher Lightfoot in 2020, Westcold Refrigeration was established by Colin Brown in the 1980s, and Aircon Maintenance was formed in 2021.

In a transaction advised by Fabio Rambelli, KBS Corporate Associate Director, the Cactus group has been acquired by Nordic Climate Group, which is based near Stockholm and is the Nordic region’s leading provider of energy-efficient cooling and heating solutions.

With a presence also in Belgium and the Netherlands, NCG has in 2025 expanded to the UK and Ireland. The three Cactus group companies will continue operating under their existing brands and from their current sites.

Christopher Lightfoot will go forward as CEO for the three-company organisation, while both he and Colin Brown continue in the business together with the wider team, ensuring continuity for customers and employees as the companies take their next step as part of Nordic Climate Group.

“We felt that being part of Nordic Climate Group would be a great next step for our business – a business we are very proud of, along with our approach to serving clients across the UK,” said Christopher and Colin.

“We will keep our branding, culture and customer-focused approach, and will now work alongside like-minded heating and cooling businesses across the UK and Ireland.

“We felt there was real strength being part of the Nordic Climate Group team and it can only enhance our offering to our clients. We are both looking forward to developing our business further.”

Fredrik Gren, NCG’s President and Group CEO, commented: “These three companies have built a strong reputation for quality, technical competence and long-term customer relationships.

“Their local strength and hands-on way of working fit naturally with how we grow, supporting companies to remain who they are while giving them access to shared expertise and tools.

“Their combined experience and presence in Yorkshire complement our growing UK organisation and strengthen our ability to support customers across the region with reliable cooling and heating solutions.”
