Mecsia taps into new growth pipeline by acquiring Drain Group

The Drain Group (TDG), a leading drainage service provider across the West Midlands, has been strategically acquired by Mecsia Group in a transaction led by Jay Singh, Corporate Finance Director at KBS Corporate.

Founded in 2008 by Tony and Tina Buchanan, TDG has four subsidiaries. In each case, Drain Services Ltd is preceded by the area the subsidiary covers – Birmingham, where the company is headquartered, as well as Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

TDG delivers a comprehensive range of services for commercial and residential clients including emergency drain clearance, CCTV surveys, and water-main repairs.

Further growth is now anticipated as part of the Cambridgeshire-based Mecsia Group, a UK leader in compliance-led technical inspection, testing and maintenance services.

The acquisition means Mecsia now has over 1,270 professionals, expands its national footprint, and can accelerate its adoption of the best compliance technology whilst optimising national logistical support for each of its teams.

All of TDG’s existing directors, managers and staff are remaining long term with the business, which will continue to operate independently with no disruption to services, contracts or primary contacts.

“We’re so proud of everything The Drain Group has achieved over the years since Tina and I started the business back in 2008,” commented Tony Buchanan, TDG’s Managing Director.

“Joining Mecsia is the next natural step for us. It means we can keep growing, invest more in our people and give even more back to our customers. The most important thing is nothing changes when it comes to the way we work, our values or the service we are known for.

“This is an exciting new chapter built on trust, respect and a shared ambition for the future.”

Jon Coiley, Mecsia’s CEO, commented: “We are extremely pleased to welcome The Drain Group and their excellent team of people to Mecsia.

“We remain committed to expanding our footprint across the UK and to increase self-delivery of specialist services wherever possible.

“The team in Birmingham has an enviable reputation for quality and speed of response. We are all looking forward to developing this new group drainage service offering in the months ahead.”

KBS Corporate’s Jay Singh commented: “Mecsia is an excellent strategic partner for the company, and the acquisition will ensure the business continues to develop under their ownership. It’s been a pleasure to advise Tony and Tina on the transaction and we wish them all the best for the future.”
