Clements sets sail on new journey after long-serving owner’s exit

A full exit after 25 years as Managing Director has been achieved for Paul Williams following the sale of Clements Engineering.

Founded in 1981 and based in Little Staughton, Bedfordshire, Clements designs, manufactures and supplies marine equipment including propellers, rudders and shaft couplings for small-to-medium-sized leisure and commercial vessels.

From its foundry and workshop, the company has become one of the UK’s leading providers of bespoke propulsion engineering solutions, delivering globally.

While Clements will remain operating from its current facility with its full team, ensuring continuity for customers, SLX Group has taken sole ownership following a transaction advised by Matthew Sibley, KBS Corporate Associate Director.

Paul Williams will remain as a consultant during the transition period.

SLX Group, based in Andover with additional facilities in Germany and Singapore, has been established since 1935, providing marine components and engine spares from leading manufacturers in the maritime and power-generation industries.

“We are excited about the opportunities this new acquisition brings,” said Paul Williams.

“Clements has always stood for precision, performance and service. Joining SLX Group allows us to integrate our engineering depth with a wider array of products and global support, giving our customers enhanced certainty of supply and expanded technical resources.”

The acquisition strengthens SLX Group’s position in the marine engineering sector by integrating Clements’ precision manufacturing and refurbishment capabilities.

Justin Brooking, CEO of SLX Group, commented: “We welcome Clements Engineering to our group as we embark on an integration programme designed to ensure a smooth transition towards more growth opportunities.

“Responsiveness, honesty and respect are the values we apply in our daily business and that we will bring in the dealings with our new colleagues at Clements, our new customers and our new suppliers.”

KBS Corporate’s Matthew Sibley expressed his thanks to Higgs LLP for their “great legal work to see the transaction through to its successful conclusion”.
