IRN Security acquired by Ranger
IRN sale bolsters Ranger’s Scottish security presence
IRN Security, a sector leader in Scotland, has become the third company sold by KBS Corporate to private equity-backed Ranger within 16 months.
Founded in 2011 and based in Inverness, IRN is a maintenance-focused specialist in CCTV, alarm systems and integrated security solutions, serving clients across a broad range of industries throughout Scotland’s northern regions, as far south as Glasgow.
Kenny Smith and Malky MacDonald, IRN’s founders, will remain as Directors and become part of the senior management team at Ranger Fire and Security, driving long-term strategic initiatives for the Group in Scotland. All of IRN’s employees will also stay in their current roles, with the opportunity for further growth.
As with Amerex and Fire Door Specialists, the two previous companies sold by KBS Corporate to Ranger, IRN will continue to operate under its existing name as its acquirer strengthens its presence in Scotland and increases its overall headcount to 225.
IRN will benefit from access to the wider expertise, resources and opportunities, including new cross-selling prospects and cross-delivery, offered by Ranger – which is backed by private investment firm Hyperion Equity Partners.
“Becoming part of the Ranger Group is a fantastic opportunity for IRN that will benefit both our team and our customers,” said Kenny Smith, Director of IRN Security.
Malky MacDonald, his fellow Director, commented: “IRN has a bright future and we are well positioned to expand our service offering while continuing to operate with the same local knowledge, trusted relationships and high standards that have helped make us such a success to date.”
Mark Bridges, Ranger’s CEO, believes IRN is a “natural fit” for the group, which is striving to establish itself as the leading one-stop solution provider in the fire and safety sector.
“The addition of IRN marks a significant step in the expansion of our services across Scotland,” he said. “With their strong regional presence, technical excellence and a leadership team committed to delivering a first-rate customer experience, IRN complements and improves the services offered by other Group businesses.”
IRN’s shareholders were supported throughout the transaction by Nathan Leah, KBS Corporate Associate Director, who was delighted to bring a successful conclusion to the deal.
“Ranger Fire and Security are an outstanding acquirer and we are all very confident the business will continue to develop progressively under their ownership,” said Nathan.
“A special thanks to K3 Law for all sell-side legal work, as well as Gateley Plc on the buy-side, for their collaboration and diligence throughout the transaction.”
